Our process commences with meticulously cultivated whole mushrooms, encompassing both fruiting bodies and mycelium, sourced from our esteemed partner farmers across North America (we cultivate a diverse range of 14 varieties!). Recognizing that the potent 1,3-Beta Glucans within raw mushrooms are enclosed within cell walls, we undertake a precise method to enhance their bioavailability. Employing a meticulous steam activation process, we liberate these Beta Glucans from the chitin present in the cell walls, ensuring their accessibility and effectiveness.
Why We Use Fruting Bodies and Mycelium
Utilizing both mushroom fruiting bodies and mycelium serves a vital purpose in our approach. The visible components of mushrooms, such as the cap, stem, and gills, compose the fruiting bodies, while the mycelium operates as intricate underground networks, akin to the "roots" of these organisms. While many high-quality supplements focus solely on fruiting bodies, we integrate both for specific reasons.
Mycelium isn't a taboo in our process; however, it's crucial how it's handled. Our dedicated partner farmers prioritize patience in mushroom cultivation. The mycelium undergoes a unhurried growth process until it reaches optimal readiness, allowing it to extensively pervade the substrate. Upon harvesting, a mere fraction—less than 5%—of the initial growth material remains, ensuring our products are exclusively mushroom-derived with no fillers. This meticulous approach results in superior extracts that encompass the beneficial compounds present in both fruiting bodies and mycelium. In contrast, shortcuts taken by some growers, giving mycelium only a few weeks, yield final products riddled with higher substrate content, primarily grain-filled mycelial biomass.
